Bhuana Agung portrays the story of modernization and threats to the Balinese traditions and culture. The show combines traditional dances and rituals with the unique and vibrant ‘Sampah Puppets’ made of trash. Bhuana Agung, or ‘Balance,’ is a symbolic representation of the psychological changes of a growing community in the process of massive change. While heritage and relationships with ancestors are still considered valuable, Balinese culture struggles with the tug-of-war of tradition versus the realities of modern circumstances.
Bhuana Agung from Super Funky Artists is about sharing culture and traditions, messages about the importance of the environment, and a reminder that humans have a connection with balance in nature.
Connection with nature is an essential aspect of Balinese life. Still, with new pressures from consumerism and financial growth, the island’s ecosystem is under pressure. Bali faces an uncertain environmental future.
