Description

After the Breath is the entrance to the most intimate space of the Papermoon Puppet Theatre. In this book, friends, collaborators, researchers, audiences, and artists involved in Papermoon write their stories about being around or with Papermoon Puppet Theatre.

After The Breath collects a string of stories from creative workers coming from multiple backgrounds. The book also contains the creative endeavours of puppet theatre communities from around the world, who together with Papermoon, join hands in preserving their (puppetry) universe.

Artist’s Profile:

Maria Tri Sulistyani

Maria established the Papermoon Puppet Theatre based in Yogyakarta-Indonesia in 2006 without formal education in puppetry. To Maria, her puppetry journey has been a never-ending experiment, one that she believes as the bridge to communicate with other people.

Marianna Lis

A theatre researcher and translator. Marianna Lis received her Ph.D. in theatre studies in the Institute of Art of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw in 2017. In 2019 she published a book Wayang. Javanese Shadow Puppet Theatre on contemporary wayang summarizing 9 years of her research in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. She continues her research focusing on contemporary wayang, theatre, and music in post-traditional Indonesia.

Bright Ong is a multidisciplinary Performance-Maker, Director, and Puppetry Creative. His portfolio of work spans across different fields within the performing arts, and has spanned globally for over a decade.

A self-confessed puppet nerd, he is also a big advocate for all SEAsian work. In his capacities as a director, actor and puppeteer, he also greatly believes in the power of theatre for young audiences (TYA), and has worked on numerous TYA productions both locally and internationally. In these capacities as a theatre-maker, he has also attended several international festivals as a delegate, most recently being Imaginate 2019 (Scotland) and ASSITEJ Korea’s K-PAP 2020 (South Korea).

He is also an Associate Director with Five Stones Theatre (UK, Singapore), Associate Artist with Mascots and Puppets Specialists (Singapore), and is a participant member of the Closed Community of Artists under The Paperboats Collective (Australia) as well as a member of the UP Collective (Singapore). 

His latest puppetry credits include: Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image the Musical, and My Neighbour Totoro, both from London, UK. This is his 4th time back at Pesta Boneka, where he is most at home with his international puppetry family.
