Synopsis

Bochan’s home, Pulau Samar, is no longer as it once was. It is buried under waste due to the selfishness of the creatures living on land. Bochan must act quickly before Samar, the tree, collapses because it cannot get nutrients from the island’s soil. Therefore, he needs to plant Samar's seeds in a fertile place. The wrath of the sea spirit must be calmed before Bochan loses all his possessions.

Artist Profile

Goni Puppet Theatre is a puppet-based theatre group that was established in 2023. The name Goni is inspired by some of our puppet creations, which are influenced by gunny sacks. The gunny sack has become an identity for this group. Goni Puppet Theatre is composed of alumni from ISI Yogyakarta, coming from various disciplines such as theatre, visual arts, and ethnomusicology, who come together in one space to create works that blend their individual talents. Our first work is titled 9, adapted from the film of the same name by Shane Acker. Although Goni represents the identity of Goni Puppet Theatre, we always incorporate a variety of materials to continue innovating.
