Artist Profile

Anna Bailey from String Bean Puppets is dedicated to sharing the wonder and joy of puppetry. Since 2009 she has traveled nationally and internationally. She believes in puppetry’s power for environmental and social change and many of her shows are about environmental issues and New Zealand’s unique flora and fauna. Anna performs in predominately non-theatre spaces such as the street, libraries, museums, schools and kindergartens and she believes in the accessibility of puppetry arts and value of telling local stories. She loves to encourage the growth of puppetry arts and emerging puppeteers. She runs workshops for children and families to inspire them to tell their own stories and has also created large parade style puppetry with community groups for local festivals. She has also collaborated with museums, institutions and local government to help them tell their stories through puppetry.
