Synopsis
It’s the 5th Year Anniversary celebration of Petra Quek’s noodle stall, ‘Flying Mee Hoon Kueh’ and you’re invited! Join Petra as she cooks her signature Mee Hoon Kueh, and shares the story of how it all started.
A coming of age story about twinhood told through puppetry and cooking (and puppets who cook!). Perfect for the whole family.
At the end of the performance, audience members will be invited to try a small serving of Mee Hoon Kueh.

Artist Profile
Hand Pulled Collective is an independent theatre company co-founded in 2020 by artistic director, Talia Pua, and producer, Natalya Mandich-Dohnt. Hand Pulled Collective aims to bring stories from communities who have been pushed to the periphery through powerful and visionary new works of theatre. Since their inception, Hand Pulled Collective has presented two co-productions with Proudly Asian Theatre, ‘Pork and Poll Taxes’ in 2021 and ‘How To Throw A Chinese Funeral’ by Jill Kwan in 2023. In 2024, HPC developed and toured their first show for whanau, ‘Friends Exploring Epic Tales’ to libraries across Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland). Talia Pua is a theatre-maker of Malaysian-Chinese heritage, based in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Her work spans across stage and screen performance, playwriting, set design and most recently, puppetry. She is a recipient of The Arts Foundation Te Tumu Toi’s Springboard award for theatre (2025). In 2021, Talia made her award-winning playwriting and directing debut with ‘Pork and Poll Taxes’ which won the b425 Award (2023). ‘The Girl Whose Twin was a Bird’ is Talia’s third full length play, and first solo puppet performance. She first developed the show during her two month residency with Papermoon Puppet Theatre in 2024.
